The Most Annoying Driving Habits

Every day on the road I encounter behaviors that stretch my patience to the breaking point. The worst part? The carefree looks on the driver's faces while they're committing a grievous road sin right in front of me. It's like they don't even know what they're doing! According to a recent survey, I'm not alone. ere are a few of the behaviors drivers have reported to be the most annoying.

Even though it's tempting, don't speed up to go through a yellow light you know you'll never make. Not only is this one annoying, it's dangerous. One of the leading causes of accidents on surface streets is somebody gunning it through a "pink" light. In the same vein, when you see a stop sign and it looks like there isn't anyone else around, stop anyway.

Merging without signaling is one of the worst things you can do at a high speed on the freeway. Almost as bad is signaling for exactly one blink before shooting across a lane. Just unforgivable.

On the other side, you have the lane blocker. If I've had my blinker on for two minutes to get over and nobody's making room to let me in, I start to get frustrated. The intentional blocking of fellow motorists breaks a kind of unspoken code.

Tailgating is one that makes me nervous. I try really hard to maintain a safe buffer between the cars ahead and behind me, and in return I can only hope that others will do the same. When I encounter someone who's done this for a few miles and shows no signs of backing off, I find that laying on my windshield wipers is a good tactic, especially if the car looks freshly washed or the driver has the windows down. OK, I know that's another annoying behavior, but it least it's not dangerous.
