Keeping Your Business Up To Date With Modern Technology

One of the most difficult aspects to owning a business is keeping up with the rapid changes in technology. Recently I encountered a situation in which a customer walked away disappointed that my company didn't accept PayPal payments. I've had two customers ask if we accept Bitcoin. A handful have asked about Apple, Samsung, and Google based payment options. Though these situations are rare, each represents a significant change in the way people are looking to do business.

It's becoming more and more obvious that simply having a website just won't cut it anymore. The same can be said about having a single, unintegrated social media presence. Many customers won't even consider a business that doesn't have multiple sources for ratings attached to their sites. How can anyone be expected to handle the challenges of running a business' day-to-day challenges and navigate an fast moving technological business model that looks like it's barreling down on you like a freight train? 

The first step is to determine what you don't know. Do you know what your website does? What features it has? Do all of your links work properly? How about content? Are you giving too much? Too little? After this evaluation it may be time to pick up a few tech trade magazines. If you don't understand some of the terminology, just Google what you don't get. What do you like that you can you incorporate into yours? Do you have an active Facebook page? How about Twitter? Are they attached to your website? Also don't forget to update everything with content. Post news once in a while some news or interesting facts about your business. Social media isn't just about communication. 

While this brief primer may just scratch the surface, the advancements in technology don't have to be overwhelming. Just take it one step at a time and dive down the rabbit hole of technology when you're ready.
