What is an Alcohol Sensor Bag?
Technology is crazy, isn't it? Almost every day we hear about another new invention that can change our lives dramatically. We sure are living in an exciting time, aren't we? But when we heard about this one at Benson Collision Center Spartanburg recently after reading a news article here in Spartanburg, SC, we just had to share it with you.
Believe it or not, Tostitos did not advertise in this year's Super Bowl, but it still figured out a way to create a presence felt during the game involving the New England Patriots and the Atlanta Falcons.
In an effort to create more awareness about responsible driving, Tostitos signed a pact with Mothers Against Drunk Driving and Uber to produce "alcohol sensor bags," that are special Tostitos bags that can tell you if you've been drinking. When we initially saw this, we thought it must be a joke, but it's real.
Jennifer Saenz, chief marketing officer for Tostitos maker Frito-Lay said that her company wanted to make certain that while people are celebrating during and after the Super Bowl, were also partying responsibly.
With such a big drunk driving problem in this country, causing countless collisions and fatalities every year, maybe Tostitos has come up with a brilliant idea here. But, how does this alcohol sensor bag work?
In short, the bag is not a breathalyzer and it won't provide you a precise measurement of your blood alcohol level, but it does look for traces of alcoholic beverages in your breath. A sensor at the very top of the bag measures your breath, while lights below the logo flash with the results.
If the alcohol sensor bag does not find any alcohol in your breath, the front of the bag will flash a green light. If alcohol is detected, then the front of the bag will illuminate a red steering wheel with a "don't drink and drive" message along the bottom. The front will also flash an Uber code that you can redeem to get a discount for an Uber ride, which of course you will hopefully use to go home.
If you decide to drive while drunk, the next lights you might see are the flashing ones on the top of a police cruiser. This innovative potentially life-saving marketing and community concept by Tostitos is brilliant and forward-thinking and gives a whole new meaning to the saying, "half in the bag!"
