Mercedes A-Class Breaks Records With The Lowest Drag Of Any Car On The Market
Drag is a major factor in calculating both speed and mileage for a vehicle. With an insanely low drag coefficient of .22, the Mercedes A-Class sedan has claimed the title of the most aerodynamic car in production, leaving many to wonder why this title hasn't been claimed by a more prestigious model.
There are a few models hot on its heels, though. The mighty Bugatti Chiron has a coefficient of .36 in its patented Top Speed mode, while the BMW i8 comes in at .27 and the Mercedes A-Class hatch is hot on the A-Class' heels at .27. How exactly, though, did Mercedes achieve this?
They maximized the aerodynamic structure of just about everything on the car to start. Using strategically placed spoilers, air is directed around crucial areas.
Along with an almost completely shielded undercarriage and a shutter system through the engine bay, this allows for maximum aerodynamic performance.
The Mercedes A-Class will arrive in the U.S. this year and will be accompanied by the B-Class, GLA, and CLA models.
