Are You TireWise?
In 2014, the White House announced a new tire safety and efficiency program and named it TireWise, to raise more awareness about tire safety. Their dual goal is to take action to cut down on carbon pollution and significantly reduce this country's dependence on foreign oil. Their motto is: "Be TireWise, because the only thing between you and the road are your tires."
Here are some interesting facts about tires in the U.S., brought to you by Richard Karr Collision:
On average, drivers in the United States log more than 2,969 billion miles on their tires. There are almost 11,000 tire-related accidents annually with nearly 200 people dying in those crashes. So. it is a serious issue in Waco, TX and all over the country.
Most of these tire-related accidents can be prevented through proper tire maintenance, which includes tire inflation and regular rotations, as well as understanding tire labels, tire aging, recalls and associated complaints.
Through this federally-funded program, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Department of Transportation want to work together to eliminate as many of those 11,000 tire-related accidents every year.
By using literature that was created by the TireWise team, consumers can make educated decisions to keep themselves and their families safe, whether they are in the market to purchase new tires or desire to extend the life and safety of the tires they already have on their car or truck.
So, how can you be TireWise? Here are three things to help you to stay tire wary and tire smart:
Maintenance
How well do you take care of your tires? Do you always keep them inflated properly? How often do you check to see if they're worn? Are you knowledgeable about-about rudimentary tire maintenance and its impact on safety and overall fuel consumption?
If you care about your safety first and saving money second, it's important to understand how tires affect your car or truck's performance.
Stay safe by taking care of your tires
Shoddy tire maintenance includes not having enough air in your tires and failing to rotate them, among other items. By ignoring your care maintenance, it can lead to a flat tire, blowout or worse.
Save cash by giving your tires some TLC
Correctly inflating your tires can save you a maximum of 12 cents per gallon on gas, but only 19 percent of all car owners inflate their tires on a regular basis. That means that 75 percent of all drivers are wasting money due to under inflated tires!
Ongoing proper tire maintenance, including scheduled rotations, balances and alignments, can help to make your tires last longer while saving you some serious money down the road. In fact, properly inflated tires can extend the average life of a tire by 4,700 miles, so be TireWise and be tire smart.
