Top 5 Road Trips with Dogs
The next time you plan a road trip, you might want to consider bringing along man’s best friend. Luckily, there are plenty of dog-friendly destinations across the United States. Whether you decide to walk on the beach, hike in the mountains or explore a new city, you’ll both be assured of a memorable time.
At Cross Creek Subaru Collision Center, we love dogs and many of our employees and customers own great pooches and mutts in Fayetteville, NC, so we're happy to share this information with all of our blog readers:
1.) Highway One in California
Beautiful beaches and spectacular scenery are what you’ll find along California's goregous Pacific Coast. In San Francisco, you can hike with your pooch in Fort Funston National Park. When you continue on your drive, you’ll pass Carmel-by-the-Sea where there are a variety of dog-friendly places to eat. Of course, you can also walk along any of the several dog beaches. Along the coast, you’ll find many campsites that allow dogs as well. There’s no doubt your pooch will love the hiking trails in destinations such as Big Sur, too.
2.) Montana
A favorite road trip destinations for both people and canines is Montana. You’ll find hiking, swimming and camping sites galore in the beautiful Big Sky state. In the college town of Missoula, there are dog-friendly places to stay and National Bison Range, just 50 miles north, has meadows, bison and other wildlife to see. In Flathouse National Forest, you and your pup can camp and canoe around Flathead Lake before heading to Glacier National Park where you will find gorgeous scenery.
3.) The Midwest
There are many hotels and restaurants throughout the Midwestern part of the United States that welcome dogs. In Chicago, certain hotels offer special treats for your pooch and there are also dog-friendly cruises available. Throughout this area of the country, you’ll find beautiful lakes, nature walks and an abundance of sightseeing spots where you can bring Fido.
4.) New England
In New England, you can explore multiple states without doing a lot of driving. In Maine, you can take your dog on the ferry to go and explore the beautiful islands in the area. There are great hikes and campgrounds in White Mountain National Forest. A special stop is Dog Mountain in St. Johnsbury. In addition to ponds and trails, you can visit the Dog Chapel to leave a letter for a lost pup.
5.) Pacific Northwest
Ready for an adventure with your pup in the Pacific Northwest? Consider some time in Seattle and the San Juan Islands. After exploring the Seattle, head to Anacortes, Washington, where you can walk through the parks there. Next, catch a ferry to Orcas Island where dogs ride for no charge. Once you arrive, you can spend time swimming and hiking with your pooch.
Wherever you go, make sure to pack food and bedding for your dog and take time for driving breaks along the way.
