AAA School Safety Patrols Protect Pedestrians
The AAA School Safety Patrol plays a vital role in enabling young pedestrians as they learn and carry out responsibilities when it comes to traffic safety and at Fix Auto Indio we are obviously concerned about everyone's personal safety.
Millions of young people in this country have admirably served their classmates since the AAA School Safety Patrol program was established almost a full century ago. Over the decades, the interest in this program has spread around the planet. Now, more than 30 other countries, including Germany, France New Zealand, the Netherlands and the U.K. have created their very own versions of the AAA School Safety Patrol program.
AAA commends school personnel who administer the AAA School Safety Patrol program and law enforcement officials who contribute to their success in local communities, here in Indio and throughout CA as well.
The role of the AAA School Safety Patrol is to manage and instruct motivated student volunteers to direct their peers in safely navigating through school traffic. The members of the AAA School Safety Patrol are sponsored by their respective schools. They are student volunteers from grades 6 to 10 and are normally considered the top members of their classes. Typically, teachers and principals select patrol members, who participate only with full parental approval and in most cases, the teachers normally serve as patrol advisors.
Patrollers do not direct traffic, they only help pedestrians. children. The system works very well, because school-age children learn skills as they teach their fellow students about traffic safety on a peer-to-peer level.
To be a AAA School Safety Patrol members, a student must do the following:
- Complete a training program in traffic safety.
- Shield students from the hazards of crossing roads on their way to and from school.
- Help bus drivers in safely transporting students to and from school.
- Instruct fellow students about traffic safety.
- Play additional leadership roles under the direction of school officials.
Former patrol members include Decathlete Caitlyn Jenner, former Chrysler Chairman Lee Iacocca, Hall of Fame Pitcher Tom Seaver, former U.S. Vice President Joe Biden and two former Presidents, Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton.
If you think your child is ready to play a leadership role and help to make the journey to and from school with his or her fellow students, this could be a great fit for them. If your child has shown interest in this program, the AAA School Safety Patrol is a true learning experience. By helping students, creating tomorrow's leaders and making everyone safer as a result, the the AAA School Safety Patrol is a triple win!
