Fred Flintstone's Flintmobile Up for Auction on eBay
If you're ever in a discussion about cartoon cars you pretty much have to talk about Fred Flintstone’s foot-powered car. The Flintstones, America’s first animated prime time American television series, initially appeared on our televisions in 1960 and ran through 1966. They made a movie from the series in 1994 and today people all over the world watch reruns of the series.
Here at Premier Collision Center , we recently received some exciting news--Fred Flintstone’s movie car is currently up for auction on eBay, that's right!
So, if you're a big fan of the cartoon series or the feature film, here are the details. Maybe if you live in Duluth , GA and buy the Flintmobile, we could work on it for you? Just kidding, but it might be fun.
The Flintstones movie was a big dud and ripped apart by the critics. Unfortunately, the movie got dismal reviews, but fans loved its props, sets and special effects. In addition, car enthusiasts got to see the Flintmobile, as brought to life by the legendary George Barris, also known as “The King of Kustomizers.”
In actuality, Barris designed and built several Flintmobiles, covering frames of steel with fiberglass that look like wooden logs. Some of the Flintmobiles were constructed completely for still shots, while others were fully drivable and even a few of them ran on gas.
The Flintmobile listed on eBay is built using primarily electric golf cart parts and designed to be driven in action scenes. “The electric-powered Flintmobile was built as an operational vehicle that could be utilized in a simple way for action scenes without Fred or Barney having to overdo the foot power and run out of breath,” according to the eBay listing. “It sat a little higher than the basic foot-powered model, but was filmed so that the lower portions of the Flintmobile were not seen.”
An undisclosed number of Flintmobiles were created for the film. The seller on eBay states that this version was found in a barn and will need a full restoration, which means you might be able to get a good deal on it.
So, if you're interested in a fun restoration project and love the Flintstones, this might just be the right car for you. Maybe when you're done with it you can drive around and yell out Yaba Daba Doo just like Fred used to do.
